Bay Modern, Addition/Remodel Project,
Belvedere CA

Located on Belvedere Island with incredible views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge sat a modern, 1950’s style home that was in the late stages of deterioration. The object of this project was to expand and renovate, both architecturally and structurally, the home to a high end custom residence. The entire home was gutted and reconstructed with modern materials and structural systems to support the amazingly long cantilever floors and roof overhangs which extended up to 25 feet above the hillside below. Architecturally, this home features remarkable views of the bay from most rooms, a custom kitchen, a high-tech media room, au pair unit, and expansive exterior limestone patios at both the upper and lower levels with custom glass railings to maintain views. This home is also ecologically conscious. Its high-efficiency radiant floors heating system are less often used due to the home’s resourceful passive solar design. High-performance doors and windows, large overhangs and an operable solarium skylight for natural ventilation help keep this home cool in the summer.
